Once revolving around the Compagnie Sucrière de Bel Ombre, Bel Ombre's population is composed of fishermen, farmers, forestry workers and blue collar labour. After the closure of the factory, workers with a relatively low level of education have had to be reintegrated and trained. Their evolution from an unskilled workforce to a technical and skilled population is a Domaine de Bel Ombre priority.
